A Brief Review on Roadworthy Certificate

People often enquire about what they should do to get a roadworthy certificate and the normal procedure that has to be followed in order to get one. Well, first of all the vehicle that a person is driving should pass the roadworthiness inspection. This is the first step and last of achieving the certificate. Once the car passes this inspection, the certificate will be issued in no time.

The real question is what if the vehicle is not able to pass the test? It is not uncommon for a car to fail to meet the standards set by the state and in such a scenario; the tester will issue a rejection report. One of the major reasons cars fail to meet the standards is because some parts need to be repaired or added. If your car fails the test, you will have seven days in hand to repair the mentioned parts, and you can go for a second test after seven days. If you do not arrive on the eighth day, then your car has to go through a complete inspection once again. Every time the car fails during the inspection, the same process is followed.

You may be curious to know in advance about the parts that are inspected. Well, a roadworthy inspection covers almost all the major safety related components and parts such as the structure of the vehicle, the engine, chassis, washers, windscreen wipers, reflectors and lamps, seats & seat belts, braking, suspension and steering systems & wheels and tires. This inspection is not just about the general condition of the vehicle or the mechanical reliability. If you want to go for a comprehensive check about the overall condition of the car, then you can arrange for an independent report such as VACC or RACV.

Once you get the roadworthy certificate, it will be guaranteed that the vehicle is in top condition without any deterioration or wear and tear. It also means that the non-safety related accessories such as rear-window wipers, electric windows, rear window demister and air conditioner are working properly. It further proves that that the items checked during the inspection will continue working for quite some time even after inspection.

There are times when you have a feeling that your car is not roadworthy even though it has passed the inspection. The first thing would be to check if the item is a roadworthiness inspection or not. You can also contact the tester who inspected the car and issued the certificate. You can explain the concerns that you are facing and maybe he can look into the matter.

If the matter is not resolved, you can contact another licensed tester to support the claim and, then present a copy to the first tester. It is very common to ask about the roadworthy certificate cost. It basically depends on the condition, type and age of the vehicle that is being examined. There is no fixed cost for this inspection. You can ask for a quotation from the tester, but it would all come-down to the day of the inspection.

The validity of the certificate lasts for 30 days from the date on which it is issued. For further details on roadworthy certificate, you can visit the website of Victorian Roadworthy Centres that is a reliable name when it comes to roadworthy certificate for your vehicle.

  1. I appreciate the quick information on roadworthy certificates. I had no idea that you only had seven days to get back to get the inspection done, I thought you could just come back at any time to get it done. My brother is looking into buying a car for himself and has been curious as to what to do if it isn't roadworthy, I will be sure to share this information with him. http://www.chatswoodbrake.com.au
